Bill Herzog, co-host

One of the most well-known outdoors writers on the West Coast, Herzog's sphere of influences runs the gamut from A to Z, and back again. As a matter of fact, he may be the only man on the planet who can quote Roderick Haig Brown, Rob Halford and Dick Weber in the same context. With a vocal grab-bag that ranges from Krusty the Clown to Joe Pesci to Bullwinkle the Moose, we're never sure which one of the voices will escape from Zog's head, but we know this: it'll be funny, it'll be clever, and it'll be interesting.

Herzog is known throughout salmon & steelhead circles as "Spoonman" for two reasons: he's caught more 20-plus-pound steelhead with spoons than anyone on the planet, and he's written the definitive book on spoon fishing for steelhead, titled, appropriately enough "Spoon Fishing for Steelhead". His spoon book is only one of five best-selling titles that Zog has published through Amato Books, a resume that includes "Color Guide to Steelhead Drift Fishing", "Tying Strong Fishing Knots", "Guide to Lake and Stream Trout Fishing" and the "All Color Bass Fishing Guide".

He's been a columnist and feature writer at Salmon, Trout, Steelheader magazine for nearly 20 years, and has appeared on ESPN's Great Fishing of North America.

AT A GLANCE

  • Favorite fishery: "Dean River summer steelhead. Nothing like it."
  • Favorite NWWC guest: "Rupert from Survivor. He was totally irreverent, funny, and just having a great time on the air. The guy was aces."
  • Favorite repeat guest: "Eric Linde. Easy E is always informative, and there's never a dry moment. Always juicy."
  • Dream interview: "Ted Nugent. Just because of my love for rock & roll. He's the consummate outdoorsman, doesn't give a shit about anybody else's opinions of what he does or says, and lets you know so."
  • Favorite intro song:"Electric Eye, because it sounds like a professional wrestling intro, and Jammin' by Marley.
